True Story as a Workshop Accident Leads Him to Lindsey

In this true story, a lonely blacksmith lands in the hospital after a fall at his anvil and finds an unexpected spark with Lindsey.

It was a true accident, the kind that changes an ordinary Tuesday. Mark was carrying two coffees across the crowded lobby of his building when the revolving door spun faster than he expected, and both cups landed squarely on the cream blouse of the woman stepping in. She gasped, then laughed, and that warm laugh was the first thing he ever learned about Lindsey.

He apologized a dozen times and insisted on paying for the dry cleaning. She waved it off, but she let him walk her up to the fourth floor, where she had just moved in, so she could change. Her apartment still smelled of fresh paint and cardboard boxes. She disappeared into the bedroom, and when she came back in a soft gray sweater, her dark hair loose around her shoulders, Mark forgot every polite excuse he had prepared for leaving.

They talked for an hour among the unpacked crates, sharing a bottle of wine she had found in the kitchen. The conversation drifted from bad first days to bolder confessions, and the space between them on the couch kept shrinking. When Lindsey reached over to brush a drop of wine from his lip, neither of them pretended it was another accident. Her kiss was slow and certain, the kiss of a woman who knew exactly what she wanted.

Clothes joined the boxes on the floor. Mark took his time, tracing the curve of her hips, learning the sounds she made when his mouth found her neck and then moved lower. Lindsey pulled him toward the bedroom, guiding him with a confident hand, and they moved together in the amber light of the evening until the city noise outside faded into nothing but breath and heat.

Later, tangled in sheets that still had store creases in them, she rested her head on his chest and smiled. She told him she would gladly ruin another blouse if it meant a night like this one. Mark promised to bring the coffee again tomorrow, and this time he would knock first.
