Fantasy Sci Fi Wonderland as Alice Meets the Scarecrow

Alice had wandered so far down the golden road that the sky had turned the colour of ripe peaches, and the fields around her hummed with a strange silver light. She was a grown woman of curious appetites, and Wonderland had long ago stopped surprising her. Still, when a tall figure stirred on a wooden post in the middle of the corn, she paused and pressed a hand to her racing heart.

The Scarecrow lifted his stitched head and smiled at her with a mouth that seemed far too clever for burlap. He told her he had been built by a wandering inventor from the stars, stuffed not with straw but with soft threads that glowed whenever someone wanted him. Alice laughed, stepped closer, and saw that the threads beneath his patched shirt were already shimmering a warm, inviting gold.

She untied the ropes that held him, and he slid down into her arms with surprising grace. His hands were gentle, rough cloth on the outside and something warm and alive within, and when he traced the line of her jaw she felt a spark dance all the way down her spine. He confessed he had spent many lonely nights watching the twin moons rise, wondering what it would feel like to be touched by a woman who was not afraid of him.

Alice answered by kissing him, slow and deliberate, and the whole cornfield seemed to sigh. The glowing threads wrapped around her wrists like silk ribbons, pulling her down into the soft earth beneath the swaying stalks. They explored each other with the eager wonder of two adults discovering something entirely new, laughing and gasping in turn as the strange light pulsed brighter with every caress.

When the peach sky finally deepened into violet, they lay tangled together, his straw hat resting crookedly on her tousled hair. The Scarecrow whispered that he had found what he was missing all along, and Alice only smiled, already wondering what delicious mischief waited further down the golden road.
