Cheating Wife Confession as Mallory Faces Herself Part Nine
A cheating wife story continues as Mallory confronts her newly discovered desires when a quiet Saturday in June brings Dean back into her thoughts.
Claire told herself it only happened sometimes, and that was the rule she and Marcus had agreed on from the very first night. Sometimes meant a rainy Thursday when her husband was away on business. Sometimes meant a hotel bar across town where nobody knew her name. Tonight was one of those nights, and she felt the familiar flutter in her chest as she slipped off her wedding ring and tucked it into the zipped pocket of her purse.
Marcus was already waiting in the corner booth, his tie loosened, a glass of red wine poured for her before she even sat down. He never asked about Daniel, and she never asked about the life he went home to. Their conversations drifted instead to books, to travel, to the places they would go if the world were simpler. When his hand found her knee beneath the table, she did not pull away. She leaned closer, breathing in the warm cedar of his cologne, and let the guilt melt into something softer and far more dangerous.
Upstairs, the room was dim and quiet, lit only by the glow of the city through the curtains. He kissed her slowly, as though they had all the time in the world, and she answered with a hunger she had not felt at home in years. Clothes fell to the carpet piece by piece. Every touch felt stolen and precious, every sigh a secret she would carry back into her ordinary days. Afterward they lay tangled in the sheets, her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat settle.
Her phone buzzed on the nightstand. Daniel, asking if she had eaten dinner. Claire stared at the screen for a long moment before typing a simple reply. Marcus watched her in silence, then traced a line along her bare shoulder. Only sometimes, he whispered, as if reminding them both. She smiled, set the phone face down, and pulled him back toward her, knowing deep down that sometimes was becoming far more often than either of them had planned.
