Humor and Spoonerisms Spark a Christmas Romance

Humor brings two adult lovers together at Christmas when a tongue tied man in a cheeky sweatshirt meets the one woman who finds his slips irresistible.

Marisol had a talent for turning the most ordinary moments into comedy, and tonight her weapon of choice was a cold bottle of orange Fanta. She sat cross legged on the couch in one of Daniel's shirts, a striped straw between her lips, and held his gaze with exaggerated seriousness. She sipped slowly and dramatically, eyebrows raised, as if she were starring in a very bad perfume commercial. Daniel, a grown man who prided himself on his composure, lasted about four seconds before he burst out laughing.

"You are ridiculous," he said, wiping his eyes. She only batted her lashes and took another long, theatrical pull from the straw, finishing with a loud slurp that echoed through the apartment. The fizz tickled her nose and she sneezed, which set them both off again until they were leaning against each other, breathless and giggling like the old friends they were before they ever became lovers.

Somewhere between the laughter and the sticky sweetness on her lips, the mood shifted. Daniel brushed a drop of soda from the corner of her mouth with his thumb, and she caught his hand and kissed his palm. The teasing glint in her eyes stayed, but it softened into something warmer. He tasted orange when he kissed her, and she joked that she would have to rethink her entire seduction strategy if a soft drink worked this well.

They moved to the bedroom still trading jokes, tripping over a pillow and laughing at their own clumsiness. Clothes landed in comic places, one sock somehow ending up on the lampshade. Yet beneath the playfulness was the easy trust of two adults who knew each other completely, who could be silly and tender in the same breath.

Later, tangled in the sheets, Marisol reached for the forgotten bottle on the nightstand and offered him the last sip. Daniel shook his head with a grin and told her she had ruined orange soda for him forever, in the best possible way. She laughed, kissed his shoulder, and promised that next time she would try lemonade.
