Reluctance Part Three as Olivia Embraces the Deal
Reluctance turns to desire in part three as Olivia comes home on Friday to the daring outfits Luke chose under their private agreement.
Claire had signed the agreement three weeks ago, and tonight was the third and final evening it described. She stood outside the penthouse door with her hand hovering over the bell, her pulse loud in her ears. Part of her wanted to turn around and take the elevator back down. The other part, the part that had kept her awake since their last meeting, pressed the button before she could change her mind.
Adrian opened the door and simply waited. He never pushed, and that unsettled her more than anything. He reminded her, as he always did, that the deal ended the instant she said the word they had chosen together. She nodded, cheeks warm, and stepped inside. The room glowed with low amber light, a bottle of wine already breathing on the table, two glasses beside it.
Her reluctance was not about him. It was about how much she wanted this, and how little that fit the careful woman she had always believed herself to be. Adrian poured the wine and asked her to tell him, honestly, what she was afraid of. She surprised herself by answering. She was afraid of liking it too much. He smiled slowly and said that was the only risk worth taking.
When he finally kissed her, it was patient and unhurried, as though he had all night to convince her. Her hesitation melted with every touch, replaced by a hunger she no longer tried to hide. She was the one who led him toward the bedroom, the one who whispered yes again and again, each word steadier than the last.
Later, tangled in the sheets, she realized the agreement had reached its end. Adrian asked what she wanted now that their deal was complete. Claire laughed softly, traced a line along his chest, and told him she was ready to write a new one, this time with no hesitation at all.
