Love Stories The Love Show Ten and a Hobnob Woman Arrives

Love stories continue as a tired couple lands, shares soy cappuccinos with marshmallows, and lets jet lag melt into a slow, tender night together.

The Love Show, Episode Ten. Clarissa had always called herself a hobnob woman. She drifted through gallery openings and charity galas with a glass of champagne and a practiced smile. She knew every senator's wife and every painter's agent, yet she went home alone each night to a quiet apartment overlooking the river. Tonight the producers of The Love Show had followed her to a rooftop party, and she felt the cameras like warm hands on her bare shoulders.

Then she saw him. Marcus stood near the railing, not chatting, not networking, simply watching the city lights as if they were the only guests worth his attention. He wore a dark suit with the collar open, and when he turned to look at her, the noise of the party seemed to fall away. Clarissa walked over before she could talk herself out of it. He asked why a woman who knew everyone looked so lonely, and nobody had ever dared to ask her that before.

They talked for an hour about books, about failed romances, about the strange comfort of rain on a window at midnight. When the music slowed, he offered his hand, and she let him draw her close. His palm rested at the small of her back, steady and warm, and she could feel his breath against her ear as they swayed. The cameras faded into the background. For once she was not performing.

Later, in the elevator, the doors closed and the silence between them grew heavy with promise. He brushed a strand of hair from her face and kissed her slowly, as though they had all night, and they did. In her apartment she led him past the city view to the bedroom, where the soft lamplight turned everything gold. They undressed each other with patient, wondering hands, learning every curve and every sigh.

By dawn Clarissa lay tangled in the sheets beside him, listening to the rain begin. She realized that all her glittering evenings had been a search for exactly this feeling. The hobnob woman had finally found a man who saw past the champagne and the smile, and she had no intention of letting him go.
